Think you’re too small to do business in China? Part 1: Think again.
Many small manufacturers, distributors and inventors are reaping the benefits of China’s massive production machine. You don’t have to be WalMart, Home Depot or General Electric to find a manufacturer in China who is both eager for your business and capable of being a world-class supplier.
You need to know about tier one Chinese manufacturers. They’re waiting for your business and ready to grow with you. Tier one Chinese manufacturers, the emerging manufacturing class, produce smaller orders for smaller companies and are eager to do it. They draw from a talented work force– a work force anxious to produce good products so that they can remain in the city rather than return to their family farms.
Big is good, we all know this. And China is known for factories producing orders of millions of pieces. They do this extremely well and do it on a cost basis that is usually unattainable elsewhere. As you know, high volume means savings on raw materials as well as per-piece set-up and shipping costs.
You may think your orders are too small. But remember this: just a few years ago, the big Chinese manufacturers were small. Today, they are tier four companies with world-class facilities, world class talent, and orders of hundreds of millions to billions of dollars. Tier two and three manufacturers also have modern facilities and capable employees producing very high quality goods for orders of many hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Tier one is where your opportunity lies. Your smaller orders are what these manufacturers are looking for. They are part of the emerging entrepreneurial class who have learned from experience. They know what it takes to attract your interest– good workers and quality products. They know that the successful Chinese factories produce to the same quality standards, using the same quality procedures, as USA factories. They’re anxious to find trading partners and they are geared up to take small orders and make them affordable for you.
